Towards Data Redaction in Bitcoin

چکیده
A major issue for many applications of blockchain technology is the tension between immutability and compliance to regulations. For instance, GDPR in EU requires guarantee, under some circumstances, right be forgotten. This could imply that at point one might forced delete data from a locally stored blockchain, therefore irreparably hurting security transparency such decentralized platforms. Motivated by protection consistency issues, this work we design implement mechanism securely deleting Bitcoin blockchain. We use zero-knowledge proofs allow any node transactions, still preserving public verifiability correctness spent spendable coins. Moreover, specifically STARK exploit they provide. Our solution, unlike previous approaches, avoids complications asking nodes reach consensus on content delete. In particular, our allows every specific without coordinating decision with others. implementation, removal can performed (resp., verified) minutes seconds) standard laptop rather than days as required designs based consensus.

Towards Bitcoin Payment Networks
Bitcoin as deployed today does not scale. Scalability research has focused on two directions: 1) redesigning the Blockchain protocol, and 2) facilitating ‘off-chain transactions’ and only consulting the Blockchain if an adjudicator is required. In this paper we focus on the latter and provide an overview of Bitcoin payment networks. These consist of two components: payment channels to facilitat...
متن کاملTowards More Reliable Bitcoin Timestamps
Bitcoin provides freshness properties by forming a blockchain where each block is associated with its timestamp and the previous block. Due to these properties, the Bitcoin protocol is being used as a decentralized, trusted, and secure timestamping service. Although Bitcoin participants which create new blocks cannot modify their order, they can manipulate timestamps almost undetected. This und...
متن کاملTowards Better Understanding of Bitcoin Unreachable Peers
The bitcoin peer-to-peer network has drawn significant attention from researchers, but so far has mostly focused on publicly visible portions of the network, i.e., publicly reachable peers. This mostly ignores the hidden parts of the network: unreachable Bitcoin peers behind NATs and firewalls. In this paper, we characterize Bitcoin peers that might be behind NATs or firewalls from different pe...
متن کاملTowards Risk Scoring of Bitcoin Transactions
If Bitcoin becomes the prevalent payment system on the Internet, crime fighters will join forces with regulators and enforce blacklisting of transaction prefixes at the parties who offer real products and services in exchange for bitcoin. Blacklisted bitcoins will be hard to spend and therefore less liquid and less valuable. This requires every recipient of Bitcoin payments not only to check al...
متن کاملRedaction of Potentially Sensitive Data from Mail Abuse Reports
Email messages often contain information that might be considered private or sensitive, per either regulation or social norms. When such a message becomes the subject of a report intended to be shared with other entities, the report generator may wish to redact or elide the sensitive portions of the message. This memo suggests one method for doing so effectively. Information about the current s...
